It's been awhile since we were there (the Christmas holidays were our last visit) so we decided to drive over for a long weekend. I hadn't been to Jazzfest in years and was dying to go, so I went in to New Orleans by myself one day, spent some time with good friends, and heard some music. The rest of the time was spent doing a lot of nothing in particular at my parents' home in Abita Springs; the girls went swimming, we all went to the farmer's market in Covington, and we read a lot of books and drank coffee and visited. It was one of those weekends that really makes me sad that we live so far from family.

I didn't bring my digital camera on this trip... just film. I just got everything back from the lab; this was my first time shooting Fuji color film and I like the way it turned out, especially the ones of the girls (who were surprisingly amenable to having their photo taken... it's hit or miss these days.) All of these photos were taken on a Nikon F100 with Fuji (color) or TriX (black and white), and were developed and scanned at Holland Imaging in Austin. This film thing is addictive, I tell you.

I've lived in Austin for a long time, but New Orleans, you'll always have my heart.

They made me feel so welcome, and it was so much fun to shoot this happy group of women. (Plus, I kind of felt like I was back in college, and wanted to move in to their sorority house. They were all just so fun!) Just a quick peek of the ladies of AXD below. Thanks for having me, girls!

These shoots are, without a doubt, my very favorites. Charlotte and Ben and big brother Ingram recently welcomed baby Alice, and they invited me over to hang out with them on a recent Sunday morning. Here are just a few favorites from the day... Charlotte and Ben, thank you for having me over! (Also, I went home and REALLY wanted pizza rolls for dinner. Ahem.)

These are from our Easter weekend a few weeks ago, when we came home from a walk to find bluebonnets and discovered a dozen cascarones on our porch (thank you, kind neighbors!). The girls immediately jumped in to smashing them on each others' heads.

All shot on a Nikon F100 with Portra 400 film.

Not just the bride and groom and their families, but everyone including the flower girl and ring bearer and everyone getting down on the dance floor and the maid of honor does karaoke in her toast and one of the groomsmen plays "I Will" by the Beatles on acoustic guitar as part of HIS toast and... oh, wait. That's totally unique to Rob and Rachel's wedding and it was AWESOME.

Normally for a sneak peek I'd post three or four photos, but, um... well. Here are about 20. And this doesn't even go past the ceremony! Expect part 2 sometime next week, with shots of their fabulous reception. ;)

Rachel and Rob, thank you SO much for letting me be a part of this day. It was spectacular, and so are the two of you.

(Huge thanks to the amazing Katherine Harte for shooting with me and also to the great folks at Hummingbird House!)

Outside shooting has been unpredictable at best, so I was really excited to get to do the kind of session I love best: a family in their home.

Morgan and Ryan asked me to come take some photos with their new baby boy and their two year old at home, which they are actually in the process of selling; they were set to move the week after we did this shoot, so I love that we got some photos of them in the house where they brought their babies home. Isla is SO much fun (she liked playing with my camera, and I was happy to oblige... photographer in the making, perhaps?) and baby River was so mellow and calm. Here are just a few of the digital shots I got... I'll be picking up their film scans from the lab on Monday, and I can't wait to see how they turn out!

Yes, I'm still here. Yes, I'm still alive. Yes, I'm still taking photographs.

And yes, welcome to 2013! In news from the past three months, I'd like to post photos of all the amazing families who did holiday card shoots this year, as well as one of my favorite families who were my LAST shoot of 2012 AND my first shoot of 2013 (holla, Watsons!), since they did a maternity/family shoot and then were kind enough to have me back to take newborn/family photos with their adorable new addition. I'm loving newborn shoots these days, since babies seem to grow overnight!

Here are a few from their session... and I'll do a quick teaser that I'm changing some things up in 2013. Be on the lookout! A few hints: film, film, and more film. :)

Melissa and Carl are a fun, hilarious, adventuresome couple and let's just start with the fact that they chose to get married out on their land in the Hill Country, and that Carl built a deck/porch for them to get married on. And I was thinking "oh, a deck. That's nice." But no, people. He built a DECK.

It was not small. (Also, the groom does back flips. More on that later.)

In any case, their wedding was filled with moments and hilarity and people who loved them, and I'm so glad they asked me to be a part of capturing that day.

Congrats, Melissa and Carl!
